(keep fingers crossed they will not come back) Although back on antibiotics as have got problems with an impacted wisdom tooth and swollen cheek on the other side, which is to be removed in the coming months. At least I dont need the wisdom tooth, where as I miss my molar, as it makes it difficult to chew food.

I am just glad the weird sensations have been stopped by having my tooth removed. I was worried that I would be minus a needed tooth and still have the problems!

regards

Anna

Edited by anna-c - 03 October 2008 at 1:02pm

Feels a little bit like the numbness after a dental anaesthetic although much milder. I first noticed it when I was having hypnosis and my hypo-therapist said that people often have similar physical reactions when in a trance. However I have noticed it at other times when I'm not in a trance (or not so I'd notice!)

I'd bbe interested if anyone thinks there might be a link to diabetes -anyway - its always nice to know that you are not alone!

Maisie

I know Patti has long campaigned for access to test strips for T2s and a year or so ago got a letter from the then health minister saying the same.

I hope your MP has some influence on the PCT. They seem to be a law onto themselves. In my own enquiries from parliamentary sources I've never been able to get a definitive statement from anyone on whether PCTs are required to follow NICE guidelines or who has the final say.

On another forum I've even suggested that a representative body such as DUK might do well do fund a test case (along the lines of those for people denied life-prolonging cancer treatments). I think it would be one of the most significant advances in the treatment of T2 in Britain today if a good result were achieved.

But I assume it would be down to members of such an organisation to band together to push for such a move.

I wrote to my MP and PCT telling them that I was concerned about this. I still haven't had a reply from my local PCT but my MP wrote to Ann Keen MP Deparment of Health and she sent him a reply, which he forwarded to me. My MP has asked if I wanted him to pursue the matter with my PCT so I have emailed him and said that I had written to the PCT but haven't had a reply.

I thought other people with type 2 diabetes would like to know that Ann Keen MP wrote that 'NICE's advice is that self-monitoring may prove useful to people in their overall approach to self-care' so that discouraging the prescription of blood glucose testing strips is not acting in accordance with NICE's advice. She also wrote that NICE is currently reviewing its guidelines on Type 2 diabetes and can be monitored on www.nice.org.uk. I don't know if these new guidelines will include advice about the prescribing of test strips.

I purchased test strips online and as I have a cold at the moment I am glad I have the ability to test. I have my next diabetes review in December.

I was told by my doctor that she would refer me to a dietician but i needed to change my diet and excercise. I have completly changed my diet and have started eating at regular times and excercising. My problem is work shifts, sometimes 12 hours, in a very busy environment where it is not always possible to get up and walk out to have something to eat. Saturday I was working a 12 hour night, managed to eat something at 9pm but then nothing until i got up the next day.
I dodnt know if I am doing things right, I have been told that the dietician appointment could be up tp 6 months coming through. No referal to any Diabetes nurse and i am so confused. I am doing things right? How do I know if what I am eating is helping me? I still feel tired (despite my shifts!) and sluggish all the time.

Can anyone give me any advice????
